Halloween 2012

Happy Halloween!

I found the girl's costumes for Halloween in the beginning of September! I usually go to this second-hand shop in my town to find clothes for cheap. The day that I went, they had just put out their collection on Halloween costumes! And they were selling them for $1 each! I couldn't pass it up! I did a once-through and found three perfect costumes for my little ladies!

But this past Saturday, I went back to the rerun shop to find some workout clothes for me. They had more Halloween costumes and they were in the FREE bin! I went through the bin and found seven costumes for the girls that will fit them until they are 10! When I got home, Vivian showed interest in one costume that I brought home, so Charles and I decided that she would dress in that costume for trick-or-treating.

Caitlin as Spider Girl

Caitlin was set that she wanted to be Spiderman this year. I was very lucky to have found a costume for her right away! It was right next to a red tutu. I put the two together and BAM! Spider Girl was born! Caitlin spent the night singing, "Spider girl, spider girl" and shooting web from her hands! She really is my hero!

Rosalie as Princess Barbie

Each time Charles and I go shopping with the girls and we go to the toy section, Rosalie goes crazy in the dress-up section! So when I saw the bright pink, puffy dress, I knew she'd LOVE it! It had a picture of Barbie in a small jewel on the dress and Rosie noticed it right away saying, "Princess. Barbie!" She was very happy to be wearing a puffy dress that she could spin in! She's my little princess!

Vivian as Tinkerbell Fairy

We originally got a duck costume for Vivian. She wore it to 2 Halloween parties that we went to the weekend before. But when she saw the pretty green tutu, she tried to put the costume on by herself! It had just enough stretch to put on over her coat last night while we went trick-or-treating! She also had a little jewel on the front of her costume that had a picture of Tinkerbell in it. The only thing missing from Vivi's costume were her wings, but no one even noticed! She's my little fairy!

I was a goober and didn't take any photos of our girls at the Halloween parties we went to last weekend. Caitlin went as Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Rosalie wore the same costume as she wore for trick-or-treating, and Vivian wore her duck costume. I did, however, get one photo of Vivian in her duck costume!

Charles and I dressed up for the Halloween parties. I went as a Vampire Queen and he went as a Skeleton Jester. I didn't get any photos of us... I'm sad about that. But we had a lot of fun! I won a friends' costume contest with my costume and got a lot of compliments!

For trick-or-treating last night, we went to one large neighborhood to go trick-or-treating and stopped by some of our friends' houses. The girls had a blast! They kept commenting on other kids' costumes and the Halloween decorations in the yards!

I want to have coordinating costumes next year, maybe. We'll see! I want to make our costumes, too. But if not, the girls have many costumes to choose from now! Hope you all had a fun, safe Halloween!

It's almost Summer!

Even though it isn't quite Summer yet, the weather has been hot for the Spring. I know that Iowa weather is famous for changing so much, but it has been giving me whiplash! Seems like I'm alternating the extra clothes in the diaper bag every other day from long sleeves and pants to short sleeves and shorts! Even deciding what type of pajamas the girls wear to bed is becoming a chore! But I know that Summer is coming fast and I soon won't have to worry about changing this around anymore! (THANK GOODNESS!)

Caitlin and Rosalie have enjoyed the reward system for using the potty. Yes, you read that right, Caitlin AND Rosalie! Although Rosalie hasn't actually gone on the potty, she will sit and pretend. I think she'll be ready in no time! I reward Caity with a Dum-Dum sucker usually, but I was out of them and only had Ring-Pops. Needless to say, I think the girls really enjoyed their reward that day!

One of the colder mornings, it was raining and the girls asked to go outside. I told them no and they were very upset. So I decided to set up Rosalie's new Disney Princess Kitchen set. It was very, very hard for them to wait, but luckily the set-up was very simple and fast. It took me about 20 minutes to set it up, and they played and played for HOURS! Vivian even joined in!

Vivian Rane turned 8 months on June 6th! It is seriously hard to believe! I think I'm in denial! And although we know that she is not our last child, it is still a little bittersweet to see her growing up so fast! She is officially crawling and talking now! She can almost clap her hands and she will wave bye-bye! She is eating food on her own and gets VERY upset if we try to help her.

Happy 8 Months, Miss Independent, my Vivian Rane!

I am not sure if I am going to be watching Colleen's kids anymore, and it makes me a little sad. Our girls have grown quite fond of Savannah and Hunter! Yes, they fight, but only about 5% of the time. Caitlin will ask, "Is my best friend on the couch?" when she wakes up. And it saddens me when I have to say, not today. Now that Colleen is back to work, her regular babysitter will take back over.

We had the kids two days in a row. The first day Charles and I walked the kids over to his Mother's house for a picnic lunch. The kids had a blast playing on the trampoline and running around the yard. But silly me, I forgot my camera!

The next day, Charles was back to work so we hung out in the house. In the morning when I'm handing out Caitlin and Rosalie's Milk and Savannah and Hunter's juice, the kids will all sit on the big Dora puzzle mat and drink their milk/juice quietly. They all FINALLY sat still enough for me to snap a photo! And right after, Rosalie got up, picked her Dora hat up, and started being cute. So of course, I had to snap a photo of her!

I have been working out the past week and the girls love to tag along with me and do jumping jacks, sit ups (kind of), and go on walks with me. They will chant, "Go Mommy, Go!" And it makes me feel like a million dollars! With Charles and I eating healthier, the girls are eating healthier, too. They have more energy, although they already had enough to begin with! But it is wonderful to see them pretending and imagining all sorts of things throughout the day. They never cease to amaze me. And I don't think that is going to change anytime soon!

March Wrap-Up!

March was a great month for our family! We had a few weeks of gorgeous weather! We decided to clean up the yard when the weather was first starting to be nice! The girls were more than willing to help us out!

Playing in the front yard with sticks!
Vivian watching her big sisters!
Caity and Rosie walking along the planter stones!
Vivian and I relaxing!
We decided to reward the girls afterwards with a dilly bar from DQ! (I know that rewarding with snacks is somewhat controversial, but Caitlin asked for some ice cream when we went back inside for the day. I felt she deserved it! And so did Rosalie!) The girls really enjoyed their treats!

On the 10th, Vivian hit another milestone! She ate rice cereal for the first time ever! She did very, very well with it! I started noticing her cluster-feeding and not being content after nursing. I decided it was time to start feeding her rice cereal!

I had my first trial run with Caitlin's birthday cake. She wants a Belle party and with that comes a princess cake! I looked online for different ways to make a dress cake without having to buy a cake mold, but I didn't have the appropriate bowls and cake pans to do so. I broke down and bought a Wilton Dress Cake Pan and it's glorious! The recipe called for only one cake mix in a box, but I'll need two in order to fill the entire pan. I made the yellow gown and it was a lot easier than it looks! I think it turned out fantastic! It was a little disproportional, but Caitlin just LOVED it!

We took the girls out to to park for a picnic and they had a BLAST! Aside from the occasional screaming and throwing sand at each other, they had a fantastic time!

Photo taken through the branches of a pine tree!

On St. Patrick's Day, I made the girls green pancakes with eggs and bacon. They got impatient when it came to the bacon and eggs, so they ate their green pancakes first!

I made Corned Beef and Cabbage for supper. The girls didn't really like it, but that's alright! They ate the potatoes!

For the next few days, we enjoyed the nice weather and took the girls to the park every evening. Caitlin is getting stronger and braver! She can climb a latter all by herself now! Before, she'd need me to stand by her and hold her sides, but it finally clicked! She's getting so big!

It rained a few days, and with the warmer and rainy weather, it means more bugs inside our house. Mainly, spiders. Our house is older and the basement is scary. It was once an outside basement and so there are a ton of bugs and critters (sometimes). Killing spiders has become a regular routine in our home. Let me make one thing clear. I. Hate. Spiders. Absolutely hate them. One morning I was getting ready for a shower when I looked into the tub and found a huge spider trying to climb out. After about 5 minutes of me being completely grossed out, I decided to put it in a jar to show the girls. I wanted them to know what they look like and that if they see one, they need to get Mommy or Daddy to get it. They all had a fun time counting the legs and even naming the thing! Itsy Bitsy!

He met his death when the girls went down for nap. The rule for spiders and other insects in my home is simple. If you're inside my house, game over. They can run, but I tell them, "May the odds be ever in your favor!"... but inside, I'm lying. I don't want them inside my house at all. Ever.

I snapped some cute pictures of Miss Vivian while my other girls were off playing with the spider in the mason jar! Aside from the weird eye reflection in one eye and not in the other, this photo is well captioned! See:

Do you have tickets to the gun show?! I'm all muscle!
Her arms made me laugh! She's so healthy and happy! To be 18 lbs at 5 months is quite an accomplishment! She's just huge! We call her Chubbers! She's rolling all over the floor and kicking herself across the floor! Caity and Rosie get a kick out of her rolling around! They will all lay on the floor and giggle!

Caitlin turned three on March 24th!

We had a fantastic day! I'm dedicating a blog post to her and her party, so I'll leave the details out for now! But I did snap a photo of her after the party! Her and I sat on the porch and she decided to catch our cat Leo!

We're still working on getting her potty trained. We've tried about everything we can think of, but still no progress. One of the perks of potty training her is that we bought her some undies. I can't tell you how hard I laughed when they were being used for the first time...

At least they are being worn! Rosalie just cracks me up! Caity will wear them (the correct way) but only if they are over her diaper. Hopefully she will want to train soon, but that's one of the perks of having the cloth diapers! I don't have to worry about constantly buying diapers! WIN!

I don't really have a reason for this next picture, except that my baby is the cutest baby EVER!

I just love her!
Every 6 months, my church has a world-wide broadcast of General Conference. Since Charles and I have been married, we've watched it at his parent's house. We have never had cable or internet. Since we purchased internet a few months ago, this General Conference was different! We were able to enjoy it in the comfort of our own home with our children! We watched it on the computer! The girls did very well! They started off sitting in their chairs, but after about 45 minutes, they wanted to color! It was a wonderful conference!

Now we are welcoming April 2012 and I'm very excited for Easter! I have some fun stuff planned for the holiday and can't wait to share it with you all!

February Lovin'

February has been great to us so far! We've got a lot accomplished! We started the "Member Missionary 21-Day Promise" on the first and have kept to saying our morning and evening prayers each day praying for the people listed on our list and reading the suggested scriptures for each day. We have already begun to have opportunities to share the gospel with some other friends not on our list and we've had a few opportunities to set righteous examples outside of our home! It is amazing to me just how the Lord works through Charles and I sometimes! We have found so much happiness, peace, and understanding with the Lord's gospel, and we want others to share in our happiness, too! (If you wanna know more about our church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, check this site out!)

The girls have been awesome so far this month! They are doing a lot better now that Charles and I have been working on not yelling so much and disciplining with love and patience. The result was almost instant with the girls! They are a lot calmer, they don't yell as much, and they have learned how to be quiet! We have read and feed time which allows them to eat a snack while I read them a book or four! Usually an hour before nap time. Although our nighttime routine is becoming our nap routine! Charles and I sing "I am a child of God" to each girl when we put them to bed. Caitlin is now helping us when we sing to Rosalie. This is her singing to Rosie a few days ago right before nap:

I love my Caity! She's so sweet with her little sisters! :) She is always giving them kisses, hugs, and loving on them! She always wants to hold Vivian! As you can see here:

So sweet! Vivian is officially 4 months old, which seems crazy to me! It's gone by so, so fast! With each child, the first 6 weeks are the longest and shortest of my life. Time seems to be going all crazy and I'm sleep deprived, so I lose all track of it. So to say that 4 months ago I gave birth is kinda crazy! It feels like she's always been here and yet she's so new! She is talking, cooing, rolling over, and doing fantastic!

Rosalie has a new thing going on. She will dig into her diaper whenever she poops. When Caity was around 2, we stopped putting her in onesies. We had a few that would fit her, but there was no need. So when Rosalie got a bit older, we started putting her into t-shirts and pants. We were sitting on the couch watching a movie when I smelled a dirty diaper. I looked over at Rosalie and she had poo all over her hands. I jumped up off the couch and ran her into the bathroom to give her a bath. It. Was. Everywhere. All over her hands, clothes, legs, and all over our coffee table. She was so quiet during the movie that we didn't watch her that closely. After her bath, I put a clean diaper on her. Within seconds, she was putting her hands down the back. I went into her room and pulled out all the onesies I could find in her size and bigger.

Wearing those worked for a week. Then it happened again. Caity, Rosie, Vivi, and I were all on the couch watching Caillou when I smelled a dirty diaper. I looked over to Rosalie first and she had poo all over her hands AGAIN. Round two. Rosalie had gotten into her diaper from the side. I laughed out of anger, disbelief, and because she's so darn clever. I gave her a bath, put a diaper on her, then I had a stroke of genius! I decided to grab a pair of tights and put them on over her diaper. Then I snapped her onesie on over the tights!

So far, so good! She tries and tries to dig into her diaper when she's dirty, but now she just gets frustrated and starts to cry. This is the look she's styling these days:

Whenever we go out to the store, to church, to the library, etc, we just put a pair of jeans on over the tights and onesie! She was digging into the side of her onesie right before I snapped the photo above! I was hoping to catch her in action, but no such luck! Hopefully she grows out of the phase soon. I don't like poop.

Winter finally decided to show up! The girls were thrilled to wake up and see a lot of snow on the ground! Caity kept asking me to go outside and play in the snow! I told her that we'd all go outside after Daddy got home from work. So as soon as he walked in the door, Caity came up to me with her boots and mittens! Gotta love snow suits!

All ready to go outside!
Caitlin climbing over the pile of snow that Charles scooped out of our driveway!
Rosalie trying to walk in the snow! She needed Daddy's help!
Making and throwing snow balls!
Caity picking up snow and dropping it!
Rosie doing the same thing!
My girls just playing in the snow!
They had a blast! They came inside and I had a warm bowl of soup ready for them! Caity kept asking to go back outside, but the sun had gone down. I am glad they got a good snow to play in! We haven't really had a good snow this year! But it's here now!

We took Vivian in for her 4 month appointment and weren't surprised when she came out in the 95th percentile for height and weight! The girl is HUGE! She weighed 15 lbs 13 oz and was 25 1/2 inches long! Although I'm positive she's hit 16 lbs since then! She's doing so well with everything! She's right on track developmentally and she crazy strong! She's my Chubbers!

Getting some quality Tummy time!
I thought this was a cool picture!
After a major diaper explosion, she's changed and having a staring contest with Elmo.
Vivian won. She always wins...
Along with the no yelling rule, our girls have found that it's easy to get along! Teamwork is now seen around our house! Just the other day Caity was helping Rosie color a picture! It was the first time my girls have ever colored the same picture without any yelling, screaming, or fighting. I'm still shocked! I knew they could do it!

We have watched Beauty and the Beast about 8 times a day since the 5th. I don't mind it so much, because it makes the girls happy. They sing along with the songs (which is SUPER cute) and they don't fight. I do leave it on when we read or play games, because when I turn it off, the girls start crying and wanting to watch "Beauty/Beast". So for the most part, it's just background noise until a song comes on. Then the girls will watch and sing along!

We had a "bed party" the other morning! Vivian woke up and was still kinda sleepy, so I decided to feed her while lying in bed. Caity and Rosie joined us and watched Vivi eat. When she was done and burped, I put her back on the bed to change her diaper (on a portable changing mat!). After she was clean, Caity laid next to her and covered up. Then Rosie copied. Then the all started snoring and being silly! I captured some of the cuteness!

For about an hour or so, we all just lounged on my bed and played peek-a-boo, giggled, and I let the girls bounce! It was a lot of fun, especially since we don't usually let them on our bed! Every now and again is fine by me!

One of the 14 days of Valentine's gifts that Charles got was some Oreos. It was a large package, so I couldn't hid it from the girls right away. Caity saw them that morning and kept asking me all day for a some cookies. I gave her 2 cookies after lunch and this is how she came to me to ask for some more:

She had chocolate all over her face, hands, shirt, and pants! It was hilarious! I gave her one more cookie! Because I'm awesome!

On Saturday the 11th, we were getting ready to go to a birthday party for a friend's little girl. I told Caity and Rosie that we were going to go to Walmart to get a card for the little girl. Caity proceeded to draw on her magnadoodle and told me "this is what I want on the card!" What do you think?

Not gonna lie, but that picture makes me proud! She drew those little people all by herself! She even gave them belly buttons! AHH! I love her! She is getting so crafty and talented! I wonder who she inherited that from.... ;)

So when we bought the card, this is how she signed it:

The girls had a blast at the party! It had a bounce house! Of all the chaos that happened, Caity was the one to get hurt! She was bouncing and when she was coming down from a high bounce, she smacked heads with another little girl. It sounded awful. Caity cried for a little while, but she soon calmed down and got back into the bounce house. She was a trooper! Rosie kept sliding down the front on her belly and scratching up her chin on the carpet, but she'd just giggle, and go do it again! She was making everyone laugh!

Our friend Jessica came and brought her little boy so that we could FINALLY meet him! Carson is way cute and looks just like his daddy! Vivian was in LOVE from the first time she saw him. She was talking to him, trying to grab him, and she kept getting excited and giggling! It was way cute!

Charles and I got to hold him! He felt so light compared to Vivian! Caitlin and Rosalie wanted to give him some loving!

Jessica brought a small seat for him to sit in, but she let Vivi have a turn! I want one of these seats! Vivian just loved it! She didn't fuss until right before she wanted out! Her legs were a bit too chubby for it though!

We had a wonderful Valentine's Day! The girls got up early to find their Twizzler hearts I made them! Rosie ate hers right away so I didn't get a picture, but I got one of Caity!

I made treats for the family during the day, and treated the girls with some Conversation Heart cake bites! I put the girls in the shirts I made using a heart doily and snapped a quick picture before they ate the hearts!

When Charles got home from work, he surprised me with a bouquet of flowers! They aren't roses, and I'm glad! The flowers he got were much more "Carie" he said! I think he did wonderful!

I made ribs in the slow cooker and served them with a side salad and Hawaiian rolls. We invited the Missionaries over for supper and they enjoyed the meal! We left afterwards to drop off Valentine treats and head over to Jenny's house for a small Valentine get-together. It was a lot of fun! The girls had a blast and I ate way more chocolate than I should've!

I know we're a day late, but we want to wish you all a Happy Valentine's Day! We love you much!
